Workshop - writing effective licensing representations
Writing effective licensing representations workshops
As a resident of Cheltenham , you have the right and opportunity to input and influence licensing decisions in the borough that could affect you and your local community.
Did you know that applications for alcohol, entertainment and gambling are automatically granted unless local residents or other interested parties object? This means that the council is bound to issue licenses for those licenses unless we receive relevant representations. The Council is obligated to take into account any such representations before determining an application.
However many residents do not know of their right to influence these decisions, or those who do often submit representations that are irrelevant and cannot be taken into consideration.
To help local residents better understand the rules and the role they can play in the determination process, Cheltenham Borough Council intends to host a number of workshops on how to write effective licensing representations.
Initially the workshops will cover alcohol/entertainment, gambling, sex establishment and street trading licensing.
If you are interested in attending a workshop or would like more information, please register your interest in advance. We are looking to host the first of these workshops early 2012.
