Embrace

The Easter weekend will be the last chance to see the Embrace exhibition.

Inspired by Rodin’s The Kiss – which will stay on display until August - the exhibition shows the work of 20th century and contemporary artists who represent ‘embrace’ or ‘kiss’ in inspiring ways, some realistic others more abstract.

The exhibition is a unique chance to see some of the most influential artists of the 20th century, and of today, on your doorstep and all for free. Artists included in the exhibition are, Marc Chagall, William Rothenstein, Matthew Smith, Peter Howson, Chris Ofili, Gilbert & George, Kenneth Armitage, Jacob Epstein and Richard Deacon.

Their works have come from national collections – the Tate, Arts Council Collection, National Portrait Gallery - as well as from other regional galleries and individual lenders.

In each of these works is a shared passion to depict the notion of love, an idea which has fascinated artists across the centuries.  Each of their works represents the tenderness and intimacy of an embrace.

Jane Lillystone at The Wilson said: “This is the second major exhibition in The Wilson’s brand new exhibition galleries. We are really pleased to have such prestigious and key works on loan for this exhibition and the response to date has been great.”

This is definitely a show not to miss, so if you’ve not already seem Embrace, or want to return to see some of these major works of art, don’t forget that the last day for the exhibition is Bank Holiday Monday, 21 April 2014.
