The Summer of Sport scheme has places remaining for activities throughout the summer holidays.

Cheltenham Borough Council’s sports development team are offering young people across the Borough some fantastic opportunities to be active over the 6 week holidays. The Summer of Sport 2014 provides a vast menu of activities for young people to try a new sport and have fun at the same time.

Sports coaching workshops are available in many different sports for £5 per session. Spaces are currently available on indoor cricket, handball and the popular parent and child archery session, with all sessions held at leisure-at-cheltenham.

Also, the popular games week at Leckhampton is now running across two weeks of the holidays and still has some spaces remaining. Games week runs from Monday 28 to Thursday 31 July and again on Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 August. Both weeks have a finals day on the Friday, where there is a chance to win prizes.

For those wanting to replicate Novak Djokovic’s recent Wimbledon success, we have spaces remaining on the three day Montpellier Tennis Programme for 12-16 year olds. The programme takes place from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 July.

Tom Sparks, sports development officer for the council said: “We still have some places remaining on some really exciting elements of the programme this summer, so we encourage parents to book ahead to guarantee their places. The programme is proving hugely popular, so take advantage of the spaces while you can. We are working with local clubs to provide a varied, exciting menu of activities for young people this summer.”

Rowena Hay, cabinet member for healthy lifestyles added: “The summer of sport programme is an excellent opportunity to get children active over the summer holidays. Six weeks is a long time to keep those who are on school holidays occupied, but with these affordable and fun sessions, the young people of Cheltenham have the opportunity to have lots of fun.”
