Recycling centres and bring banks

Swindon Road recycling centre

The recycling centre in Swindon Road houses facilities for the disposal of household waste.  Vans, whether or not privately owned, are not permitted.  Small household trailers are accepted but must not be detached from the vehicle, so the items will need to be liftable.  Staff on site are happy to assist with unloading where required.

Items that cannot be accepted at the recycling centre:

  • DIY and builders' rubble, including asbestos
  • mattresses
  • tyres
  • paint
  • gas bottles
  • car parts
  • hazardous waste including asbestos
  • clinical waste
  • animal waste
  • trade waste
  • commercial waste
  • hard plastics*

*The Swindon Road recycling centre is currently unable to accept ‘mixed hard plastics’, so the container has been removed from the site. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Recycling needs to have an end use to enable it to be recycled and the market for selling on other plastics is not as well developed as the market for plastic bottles (which we are still accepting). This makes it more difficult to have mixed hard plastics recycled. If the markets pick up, then it’s likely that this material will be acceptable again, in which case, Ubico will be able to reinstate the container swiftly.

Other household recycling centres

If you have a large load, you may find it easier to use the county council civic amenity site. The site is better equipped and has more capacity to receive large loads of household waste. The site also accepts types of waste not permitted at Swindon Road such as DIY rubble.
