Is development on green open spaces prohibited in conservation areas?

Not necessarily, but any proposals for such development will be looked at very carefully, and if the loss of open space would affect the special character of the area then this can be a reason for planning permission to be refused. This can affect sites just outside conservation areas as well as inside, as the effect on the setting of a conservation area has to be considered as well as the area itself.

The council will notify immediate neighbours by letter, will put up a notice near to the site, and will include the application in the list advertised in the "Echo". In response to any of these, you can come to the council offices and look at the proposals, and write and tell us what you think of the scheme.
