Can I prune my neighbour’s tree?

Legally you are entitled to prune any part of the tree which over hangs your boundary, but only back to the boundary.  If the tree is covered by a TPO or is within the conservation area then you must still seek consent from the council prior to the arrangement of any works.

If such pruning leads to the death or premature demise of the tree(s) then you may be liable, therefore professional advice should be sort.
