What is the Structure Plan?

Non-metropolitan counties within Britain are covered by Structure Plans. These plans generally cover a plan period of ten years and provide a strategic framework for the use and development of land. Local Plans are required to be prepared within the context of Structure Plans

The current Structure Plan for Gloucestershire is called 'Gloucestershire Structure Plan Second Review'. This plan covers a plan period mid 1991- mid 2011, and was formally adopted by Gloucestershire County Council in November 1999. Gloucestershire County Council have reviewed this plan (Third Alteration) however this was not progressed to adoption due to non compliance of a Direction by the Secretary of State.

The Structure Plan Second Review will be replaced by the South West Regional Spatial Strategy.
