What is the Local Development Framework?
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act came into force in 2004 and set out significant changes to be made to the planning system. This Government Act requires the existing Cheltenham Borough Local Plan to be replaced with a new style of development plan known as a Local Development Framework (LDF).
The new planning system of LDFs has been designed to streamline the local planning process and promote a proactive, positive approach to managing development. The LDF will be made up of Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents.
The LDF will replace the adopted Local Plan. In the interim the adopted Local Plan policies are saved and continue to be used as the development plan for Cheltenham.
