Do food businesses need to be licensed?

There is currently no requirement for food businesses to be licensed. However, premises do need to be registered under the Food Premises (Registration) Regulations 1991 if a food business is being run for more than five days in any five consecutive weeks. This involves completing a very simple form which details the name, address and type of business. This is then used to provide information to local authorities about food businesses in their area so they can target inspections and education programmes effectively.
