Claiming benefit when self-employed

Being self-employed does not mean you won't get any benefit. The amount of benefit you are entitled to will depend on how much your total income is per week, your family unit and the rent and council tax you have to pay.

The way we work out your income is different to employed people as not all your expenses are treated as expenses for benefit purposes.

Child minders and company directors are treated differently. Please see our leaflet for further information on claiming benefits when you are self employed.

If you have been trading for less than one year please complete this form.
