Providing services for our community

Commissioning is a long word but it describes a very simple idea - that councils and other public bodies should concentrate on understanding what communities need, decide what are the priority areas for change, then put services in place to make those changes.

Our short protocol describes how we do this.

Our Chief Executive explains our approach in this video clip.

Commissioning in practice

Here are a couple of examples of how we have used commissioning principles to be as creative as we can:

  • on a large scale we have set up Ubico Ltd to collect and recycle waste, clean the streets and provide many other environmental services
  • on a smaller scale we have funded County Community Projects to fill a gap in the support of children and young people
