Thursday 22 November, 8 – 9.30pm at the University of Gloucestershire, Park Campus, (Room TC007), The Park

Cheltenham Inter Faith, Cheltenham Borough Council and the University of Gloucestershire are hosting an event to celebrate and raise awareness of Cheltenham’s different faith communities and show how Cheltenham residents respect and value them.

‘Illuminating Faith’ will take place on Thursday 22 November from 8pm – 9.30pm at the University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus. The mayor, Councillor Colin Hay, will open proceedings and everyone will have the opportunity to make a candle holder to take away, before the lights go out and the candles are lit. Members of each faith will share a poem, story, reading or prayer. There will also be a multi cultural buffet and people attending are asked to bring a dish to share.

The event is part of Inter Faith Week, which is a national annual event taking place this year from 18 – 27 November. The week has been extended this year for the Diamond Jubilee. The aim of the week is to raise awareness of Cheltenham’s faith communities and for them to come together to celebrate, learn about each other and have fun in order to promote good relations, respect and tolerance.

Peter Slocombe, chair of Cheltenham Inter Faith said: “It is a great opportunity to bring our different faith communities together and to celebrate diversity and the things we have in common.”

Saba Amjad, strategy and engagement assistant (inclusion) from Cheltenham Borough Council, said "We have a range of different faith communities in Cheltenham. The council is pleased to support this event to bring them all together and for residents to find out more about them."

Anyone is welcome to attend this free event. For more details, please contact Saba Amjad on 01242 775205 or Jo Parkin on 01242 724593.
