Raising of the flag for Commonwealth Day

- Monday 10 March, 10am, at the war memorial
Mayor Wendy Flynn will be raising the Commonwealth flag on Monday 10 March at 10am to mark Commonwealth Day. The day is an opportunity to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth’s organisations, which aim to improve the lives of its citizens.
Since 1977, the Commonwealth family has celebrated Commonwealth Day every year on the second Monday in March. It is a day marked by activities around the Commonwealth and the theme for Commonwealth Day this year is Team Commonwealth.
Cllr Wendy Flynn said that as first citizen she counted it a privilege to be able to lead the town in this event and would like to invite members of the community to join her. The Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out by the Mayor before the raising of the flag at 10am. The flag will be raised at 10am at the same time as all other participants throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
