Survey closes midnight, 29 January 2017
Residents are reminded that they have until midnight on Sunday to take part in a survey about parking in Cheltenham. Surveys must be completed and returned to the council by midnight on Sunday 29 January 2017. So far nearly 800 responses have been received and the council would welcome more.
Ticket prices, car park access and disabled provision are some of the topics covered in the survey which focuses on ‘off street’ parking in council owned car parks.
The aim of the exercise is to gather the information needed to help shape the council’s off-street parking strategy. This document will offer guidance on the provision of adequate off street parking up to 2031, at competitive cost and will also take in to account access by environmentally friendly alternatives including walking, cycling and public transport. Important factors also include good traffic management and visitor experience.
Councillor Andrew McKinlay, cabinet member for development and safety said: "Whether it’s the cost of parking, the number of spaces or where those spaces are, it’s certainly a subject that is widely debated. I am pleased that people now have the opportunity to tell us what they think about the town’s parking facilities."
Mike Redman, director for built environment added: "This is a big piece of work which is really important to get right. We want as many people as possible to take part in the survey, whether they’re residents of Cheltenham, visitors or commuters. We need to make sure that the town’s parking provision takes account of the needs of everyone."
It is hoped that the findings, including the results of the survey will be ready to present to the council’s cabinet in late spring 2017.
Take part online or pick up a survey from the reception at the Municipal Offices, Promenade, Cheltenham GL50 9SA or from a number of other locations around the borough*. Surveys must be completed and returned by midnight on Sunday 29 January 2017.
