A change at executive board level
Published on 29th November 2017
A proposed new look senior leadership team will be discussed when committee members meet on 7 December.
The appointments and remuneration committee will be asked to agree the proposed changes to the borough council’s executive board. It is proposed that at the top of the senior leadership team, chief executive Pat Pratley, will be supported by:
- Managing director for place and growth
- Executive director for people and change (new post)
- Executive director for finance and assets (a full time post, the post-holder is seconded part time to the Forest of Dean District Council as the section 151 officer)
It is proposed that the current director of resources and corporate projects will take on the new part-time transitional role of director for corporate projects. There are no proposed redundancies.
Pat Pratley, chief executive said: “I committed to reviewing the senior leadership team when I became chief executive earlier this year. Through my proposed new structure, I am committed to delivering organisational stability through a time of considerable change.
“My proposal with this review is to put the key building blocks in place for the future success of the council. The review will take a ‘whole authority view’ and ensure that the leadership team has the capacity, skills, capabilities and competencies required as we continue towards our ambition for Cheltenham to be a place where everyone thrives.”
Cllr Rowena Hay as chair of appointment and remuneration added: “We should review our structures in an ever-changing world. We need to have the right structures in place to meet all of the ambitions we hold for Cheltenham and to effectively manage the financial challenges facing local government. It is important that our chief executive continues to keep the senior leadership team under review.”
If the proposals are agreed, a formal consultation with those directly affected will take place over the next two months and a further report will go to full council in February.
