Extra refuse crews scheduled
Published on 31st December 2017
Following the snow and ice of last week, Cheltenham Borough Council and its waste contractor, Ubico Ltd., have scheduled extra crews to deal with the accumulated refuse.
Residents in the Fiddler’s Green, Hesters Way and Springbank areas will have extra refuse crews arriving tomorrow (Monday 1 January 2018).
Tim Atkins, director of place and economic development said: “As a result of the bad weather, extra refuse crews are being deployed to collect refuse from residents who had a missed collection last week in the west Cheltenham area. Additional crews will start on Monday morning (New Year's Day) in the Fiddler’s Green, Hesters Way and Springbank areas and then move on to the other areas that have had missed collections in west Cheltenham. Residents are advised to present their refuse by 7am and leave it out until the collection has been made. These additional refuse collections will continue throughout the week until the backlog is cleared. We will endeavour to complete these as soon possible. Recycling collections will not be affected but may be collected by a different vehicle during this period.
“We would like to wish all residents a Happy New Year and apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
If, while you are waiting for your next collection, you accumulate more waste than you can fit in your wheelie bin, please put the extra waste in a tied black bag and present it beside your wheelie bin for collection.*
For extra recycling, use a sturdy box - not made of cardboard as this will get sodden in damp weather – and put it alongside your normal recycling box. Extra food waste can be presented using your smaller kitchen caddy if your larger one is full. Cardboard should be folded flat and placed next to the blue bag.
Cabinet member for clean and green environment, Cllr Chris Coleman, said: “The Council and Ubico apologise for the disruption to services. The Council is working as hard as possible to resolve the difficulties caused by the bad weather. I would like to thank all residents for bearing with us as we work to get collections back on track as quickly as possible.’’
The Swindon Road recycling centre remains open if residents wish to dispose of any materials in the meantime.
Please note council offices will re-open Tuesday 2 January 2018.

*Ubico Ltd. does not normally collect extra refuse waste other than that contained in a wheelie bin, but an exception is made when collection services have been suspended and over the Christmas period.
