Local charity The Butterfly Garden have joined forces with the council to collect unwanted video tapes and recycle donations

Students at local charity The Butterfly Garden have now joined forces with the council to collect unwanted video tapes and recycle donations made at the Municipal Offices and at the Swindon Road recycling centre.

Working with the local authority, collection points are now set up, encouraging the public to empty out their cupboards with any old videos they no longer need.

Cllr Chris Coleman cabinet member for clean and green environment, said: “We’ve agreed to support the students at The Butterfly Garden by rolling out a video collection scheme in partnership with Ubico, the council’s environmental services provider.

‘’Residents who no longer want to keep their video tapes can now donate them to the collection bins at the Municipal Offices and at the Swindon Road recycling centre during opening hours.’’

Chris Evans chair at the Butterfly Garden continued: “We’re hoping for a good response from residents. Our students love recycling, they want a purposeful occupation and this gives them a great opportunity. They have recycled more than 1 million tapes since 2008 and we know a lot are still out there.’’

The Butterfly Garden students work to dismantle the component parts which are sorted into metal and plastic types which are then collected by Printwaste Recycling.
