Council and partners will be engaging with residents, visitors and local businesses throughout the week.

Cheltenham Borough Council and partners are co-ordinating resource to help support the town centre this week during the ‘Gold Cup’ racing festival which approximately 250,000 people are expected to enjoy.

Partners including the Business Improvement District (BID) ambassadors, the police, environmental health, licensing, Solace (anti-social behaviour), civil enforcement (parking), community protection, Ubico and taxi marshals will all be working on various shifts from 9am through to 3am the following day, to help keep the town centre safe and attractive for visitors.

The teams will be engaging with residents, visitors and local businesses, dealing with a wide range of issues such as: persistent begging, littering, noise, food safety, parking, workplace safety, unlicensed street traders, charity collectors or leaflet distributers, dog fouling, graffiti and other forms of antisocial behaviour.

The council will also be referring intelligence to teams tackling illegal taxi activity, ticket touting and licensed premises infringements.

Ubico (the council's waste and cleansing service provider) will be cleaning the town centre area each morning and supporting local businesses by jet washing doors and windows where needed.  The portaloos, which are located outside the Municipal Offices and on the approaches to the racecourse from town, will also be checked and cleaned regularly.

Councillor Andrew McKinlay member for development and safety said: “It’s great to welcome so many visitors to Cheltenham and showcase what the town has to offer. We work closely with all our partners to help make sure the whole week runs safely and smoothly. We’d ask people to get in touch if they see or experience a safety or environmental issue.”
