Stalls in a public toilet

New consultation runs from 6 to 26 September 2019.

Cheltenham Borough Council is reviewing the future of its public conveniences and the ways in which the service can be improved. Many of the existing facilities need significant investment over the next few years to ensure they are up to date and in good condition for all residents and visitors.

A partnership initiative is being explored to increase the choice of public conveniences available to the public. The council is considering proposals that would keep its key facilities and seek a community partnership initiative with local businesses and commercial premises to give public access to additional facilities.

Jane Stovell, project manager for Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “We’d like to get some feedback on people’s needs and suggestions on what the council should consider when looking at potential partner options, so that we can provide toilet facilities that are inclusive for all members of our community.”

Notes:
Although the council has power (but not a duty) under section 87 of the Public Health Act 1936 (as amended) to provide public conveniences, it is not obliged to do so. However the council believes that provision of the amenity is important to the town.
