Celebrating inspiring women as part of International Women's Day
Published on 8th March 2021
To help mark International Woman’s Day 2021, Cheltenham Borough Council, No Child Left Behind and the Public Art Panel are launching a project to capture local school children’s thoughts about the women that inspire them the most.
We are asking children and young people to create some art or writing in response to either or both of the following questions:
- Which woman or women inspires you?
- How do you see women represented around you e.g. in the media or art? How would you like to see them represented?
All submitted works will be displayed virtually and form the basis of a report to the Public Art Panel as one of the ways in which the public will help inform the vision for a future art installation that celebrates women in Cheltenham.
Cllr Flo Clucas, member for healthy lifestyles and lead member of Cheltenham public art panel, said: ‘’Helping children of all ages and all genders to find inspiration from diverse female role models is really important. We want to hear from our town’s children and young people and ask them to share their views of inspiring women to celebrate International Women’s Day whilst also asking them to think about how they would like to see women represented in the future.
“I very much look forward to viewing submissions and to working with the public art panel to create a piece of art that celebrates women”.
Submissions are requested no later than Friday 19 March and can either be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to the Municipal Offices.
