Work to Burrow's Field in Leckhampton and home to Leckhampton Rovers Football Club, starts from the 24 May.

Improvements to Burrow's Field in Leckhampton are set to start later this month. The work forms part of a project the council is working on with Leckhampton Rovers Football Club (LRFC) who has made the field their home ground.

The improvements will see essential levelling, drainage work and reseeding of the football pitches. The pavilion is being refurbished and redesigned to create male and female changing rooms, adult and accessible facilities, a multi-purpose communal area and an additional access point. Completion of the perimeter path is also included as part of the improvement works, thanks to support from Councillor Dobie.

Everyone who currently uses Burrow's Field will still be able to access the area whilst any work is being carried out. To allow for this, the work will be carried out over two phases.

The first phase this summer will be to the pitches and surrounding area north of the big tree and is expected to take 10 weeks. The second phase will start next spring/summer (2022) to pitches south of tree (please see map below).

Cllr Flo Clucas cabinet member for healthy lifestyles at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “The improvements will make a huge difference to this much valued green space and we’re delighted that work is starting this month.

“Residents are assured that the work to the field is for the benefit of the whole community. The look and feel of the field will remain the same, but with much improved playing surfaces for the pitches.

“We are working closely with our partners to ensure the improvements are carried out sensitively and that any disruption will be kept to a minimum.”

Mark Beaney, trustee at LRFC, continues: "LRFC has been working tirelessly on this project for the past three years. It is really exciting that it has now become a reality. It will enable the club, its members and the wider community to enjoy fantastic facilities for sport and recreation at Burrow's Field for years to come and meet its vision of ‘inspiring everyone to play and love sport’.

Notes: £355,372 has been approved for improvement work to the playing fields and is earmarked for essential levelling and drainage works to the football pitches. The funding was secured by Tewkesbury Borough Council through Section 106 (funding gained from new developments to ensure communities have access to new facilities or that existing facilities can be updated and maintained) as part of planning approval for a development at Farm Lane, situated on the border between Tewkesbury Borough and Cheltenham District.

A final phase of the perimeter path will be included as part of the pitch improvement works, this will make a full perimeter path around the field. £10k funding for this work has been identified from Gloucestershire County Council’s ‘Growing our communities’ pot.
