Catch up collections will take place where safe to collect from today, 16 December 2022

Catch up waste and recycling collections will start today in some areas where it is safe to do so.  The council’s service provider, Ubico, will be out today collecting refuse, food and recycling in areas where main roads are clear and pavements are safe for staff to walk on.

Safety inspections will take place during the day and crews will be directed to those areas around the borough where it is safe for collections to take place.    The scheduled collections for today have been suspended and crews will concentrate on catching up on those collections missed due to the heavy snow and ice from Monday 12 December onwards.

Catch up collections

Residents are asked to leave their bins and boxes out at the kerbside and crews will be catching up on collections today, as well as Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December, throughout next week and Saturday 24 December.

Revised collections today, 16 December 2022, where main roads are clear and pavements safe to walk on:

  • Monday’s missed recycling and food collections in Wymans Brook and missed refuse and food in Springbank and Hesters Way
  • Tuesday’s missed recycling in the Gloucester Road and Lansdown area and missed refuse and food in Rowanfield and Arle
  • Wednesday’s missed recycling in the Whaddon and Prestbury area and missed refuse in Pittville and Charlton Kings

Crews will move into other areas if time allows and where safe to do so.

Garden waste collections suspended

Garden waste collections are now suspended until the new year as the contents will be frozen and crews will concentrate on refuse and recycling.  Residents are asked to take their garden waste bins back in.   The council will seek to arrange a collection in the new year for missed garden waste where possible and additional side waste can be presented in black bags if necessary.

Usual schedule from 19 December

From Monday, 19 December 2022 residents are asked to put their recycling boxes, food caddies and bins out as normal on their usual scheduled collection day and leave them out.

Snow and ice clearance

Street cleansing crews have continued clearing snow and ice within the town centre and high foot fall areas in the borough including some pathways and entrances to parks and gardens.  The entrances to town centre car parks as well as the pay points, access roads and some parking bays were also treated with salt.  Street cleansing crews will be continuing this daily to make car park access easier for visitors.

Most public toilets are closed today due to frozen pipes.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Household Recycling Centre

The household recycling centre in Swindon Road is open today and tomorrow from 9am to 4.30pm for any residents who want to dispose of waste or recycling. The council is advising residents to check www.cheltenham.gov.uk and social media channels regularly to get the latest advice.
