Cheltenham’s residents and businesses are invited to join Cheltenham in Bloom (CIB) in celebrating its thirtieth anniversary by entering their free annual garden competition.

There are 15 different categories to choose from including residents’ front garden, single hanging basket, box or container, patio; community garden; special feature in a garden; small/large shop; nursing home; hotel; and public house.

Chris Ryder, chair of Cheltenham in Bloom, says: “Enhancing your premises not only makes the property more eye-catching, but helps to attract people to the town. This in turn has a positive impact on the town’s economy.

“Show us your colours and help us celebrate 30 years of enhancing Cheltenham by letting us judge, be it a single floral container or an acre of garden!”

The committee was set up to raise awareness of the importance of Cheltenham's floral heritage amongst the town's residents and businesses and to involve the community in celebrating the town's beauty. Founded in 1982, CIB continues to play an invaluable role in promoting sustainability, community involvement, environmental friendliness and of course, horticultural excellence.

Cllr Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainability, continues: “Cheltenham's floral displays are a very important part of the town’s attraction, especially to visitors. Cheltenham in Bloom has had a very important part to play in that over the last 30 years by encouraging a high standard of display ─ whether it's individual window boxes or our parks."

Entry forms are available from Chris Ryder by email rydchr@aol.com, or telephone 01242 526464 or by calling Cindy Lewis on 01242 234463. Entry forms are also available from reception at the Municipal Offices. Please return completed forms by 13 July to Cindy Lewis, 93 Shurdington Road, Cheltenham, GL53 0JQ, telephone 01242 234463, mobile 07540 530266. Judging will take place on Monday 16 July and residents will be notified when we will call. There will be a prize-giving ceremony in the autumn.
