Brownfield land register

By law, we have to prepare and maintain a register of our brownfield land (previously developed land) that:

  • has an area of at least 0.25 hectares or is capable of supporting at least five dwellings
  • is suitable for residential development
  • is available for residential development
  • is achievable for residential development

We have prepared the brownfield register for Cheltenham borough in line with the open data standards as set out in the brownfield land registers data standard guidance. The register will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure the information is kept up to date.

Brownfield land registers

Local planning authorities are tasked by the government with producing a 'brownfield land register' of previously developed sites for potential housing use.

We also have an interactive map of brownfield sites.

In accord with the relevant requirements, the register has been published under the Open Government Licence, details of which can be viewed on our open data pages, along with all other datasets.

Please note that at this point of time Cheltenham Borough Council has not identified sites to be put forward into Part 2 of the register - to be considered permission in principle.
