Pittville Park tree felling notice

It is with regret that we are removing a beech tree in the southeast corner of Agg Gardiners playing field in Pittville Park between Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 August 2026.

A very large cavity at the base of the tree was noted some years ago. We have been managing the risk of the tree falling over during extreme weather by reducing the size of the crown of the tree.

However, the internal decay is getting worse which poses a risk to the adjacent property. We also need to consider the safety of the public in this part of the park.

Sadly, the risk is now considered to be unacceptable, and we will need to remove the tree.

The trunk of the tree will be left in situ for its wildlife value.

After removing the beech tree, the horse chestnut tree alongside will have lost its companion shelter from the wind. For safety, we will be reducing its size.

New tree planting will take place during next winter's tree planting season.
