All about 2day fm Community Radio:
In February 2007, 2day fm Community Radio came to Cheltenham for the the first time. People of all ages and from all walks of life were involved in making programmes which reflect their experience of living and working in Cheltenham.
Focusing on the areas of Hesters Way, Whaddon and St Paul’s, this project gave local people the chance to tell their stories and to find out more about the lives of other people around the town. From the Hesters Way Writers’ Group, to the Milsom Street drop-in centre for people living with mental illness, Cheltenham has a host of interesting people with strong opinions and a unique take on life.

Youth forum preparing to grill MP |
Young people got the chance to put their questions to Martin Horwood MP, the local music scene turned out in force and recorded special sessions, older residents told poems and stories about changes to the town which they have witnessed in their lifetimes, and one unusual programme brought together the musical choices of young DJ Ryan and septuagenarian Ron for a unique fusion of Big Band and Hip Hop!
The local sports scene was analysed by people with a keen eye on all the fixtures which Cheltenham people care about and the thriving Cheltenham arts scene was thoroughly investigated.
Organisers hope that the two-day broadcast will just be the beginning: community radio is flourishing across the country and – judging by the energy and enthusiasm of the 400+ people taking part – regular radio programmes made by and for the people of Cheltenham could be just around the corner.
