Performers from the Cheltenham area are invited to apply to play at the town’s biggest free festival event.
The annual Midsummer Fiesta in Montpellier started in 2009 and draws in thousands of people each year. The one day event features live bands, dance acts and workshops, sports displays and activities, classic cars, children’s games and an extensive market place. There is no entry fee and no charge for most activities. The day celebrates Cheltenham’s talents and diverse communities.
Sadly, the unprecedented rainfall of 2012 left the grounds unfit for use, and for safety and to avoid causing further damage to the gardens the popular event was cancelled at the last minute.
“It was extremely disappointing for everybody involved,” said Andy Hayes, entertainments lead.
“Cancelling wasn’t a decision anybody wanted to make, but it was the responsible decision. The organising committee were all very touched by the messages of support on social media from members of the public, and we are determined that whatever the weather, Midsummer Fiesta 2013 will go ahead!”
The 2013 event will see the return of some popular features from previous years, and already has one or two new surprises. Local bands or performers of any genre are invited to apply to play at Fiesta on Saturday 6 July. It’s a chance for local people to showcase their talents, and unusual acts are welcome as long as they are suitable for family audiences.
Those interested should send their contact details, a brief biography and a link to examples of their work to [email protected] or call Andy Hayes on 01242 548294. The deadline for applicants is Sunday 7 April. The selection panel will notify successful candidates by the end of April.
The Midsummer Fiesta relies on sponsorship and volunteer support to keep the event running.
