The aim of the minimum wage is to establish fairness in the workplace and to make work pay by ensuring that all workers receive at least the hourly minimum rates set.

As well as helping workers, the minimum wage also helps business by ensuring that competition is based on the quality of goods and services provided and not on low prices based on low rates of pay.

New NMW rates come into effect on 1 October 2013 and this poster highlights the new rates and the contact details for the Pay and Work Rights Helpline. Anyone entitled to the minimum wage should receive it and if workers are not getting what they are legally entitled to they should call the Pay and Work Rights Helpline on 0800 917 2368
