The team at leisure@ want to help you kick start your New Year resolutions with two new exercise classes.

Dynamic Yoga and Beginner Pilates both start in early January so it’s a great opportunity to start the year feeling healthy and burn off any excess from the holiday period.

The Dynamic Yoga course will run from Sunday 5 January for eight weeks. It will take place every Sunday at 9.15am. It is an energetic and cardiovascular form of Yoga to stretch and strengthen the body, improve posture, reduce stiffness and injuries. It also acts as a perfect compliment to training for other sports such as running, football and many others, adding a new dimension to help boost performance.

Beginner Adult Pilates will start on Tuesday 7 January at 7.30pm. The 12 week course is a great way to get into Pilates without the pressure of being amongst experienced Pilates enthusiasts. Pilates is a mind body technique that corrects imbalances in the body posture, lengthens the spine and strengthens the muscles that surround the spinal column.

Daniel Brookes, activities co-ordinator says: “Yoga has become very popular with professional sports people such as Ryan Giggs and Andy Murray. The classes will be kept to a maximum of 15 people which gives attendees a better class experience and more one-to-one attention from the instructor than usual Yoga classes.

“The beginner Pilates class will also be kept to 15 participants so the instructor can give more individual time. Participants can be safe in the knowledge that they are all at the same stage their other class members.”

Cllr Rowena Hay, cabinet member for sport and culture, added: “These classes offer a great opportunity to start the New Year feeling fit and healthy. Yoga and Pilates are both forms of exercise that engage your mind and body, which is well worth doing after the busy festive period.”

The Dynamic Yoga course is open to anyone and costs £44 for eight sessions (no classes on Sun 26 January and Sun 2 February). The Beginner Adult Pilates course is £66 for 12 sessions. You can book now by calling leisure@ on 01242 528764.
