The Wilson option

The Wilson has made it on to a list of museums and galleries hoping to welcome a top artist for Culture24’s Museums at Night event in May 2014.

The Connect10 competition matches artists with heritage and arts venues to stage an event during the Museums at Night weekend (15-17 May 2014). The venues with the best ideas are shortlisted and a public vote decides who goes where.

The Wilson was shortlisted for its plans to hand the evening over to The Wilson Collective, a group of 14-25 year olds, who will curate the event which features a live band and an open mic on Thursday 15 May 2014. But The Wilson needs the public to vote in order to also get Lemon Jelly's Fred Deakin to perform.

Fred Deakin is part of an exciting line-up of ten artists who will perform at various venues around the UK. As half of the band Lemon Jelly, Fred Deakin has been Mercury Music Prize and Brit nominated and sold over half a million albums. In 1998 he co-founded London design agency Airside. Most recently he has created interactive art for France's national digital museum, La Gaite Lyrique.

Jane Lillystone, museum, arts and tourism manager says, “Fred Deakin will only be performing at one venue, and there isn’t a better venue that The Wilson, especially as we have so much planned for that night. We would love the public to get behind us and help us bring this talented artist to Cheltenham. The Wilson is up against three other museums who also want him, so we need your vote to make it happen!”

The vote is now open and closes on Tuesday 28 January at 5pm.
