The Wilson option

For the second year running The Wilson, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum is welcoming the open west exhibition.

The display will run from 3 May – 1 June 2014, and will be the third exhibition to open since The Wilson relaunched last October following its major build and rebrand.

the open west 2014 panel (curators Lyn Cluer Coleman and Sarah Goodwin, with guest selectors Anita Taylor and Virgile Ittah) selected 44 artists from an extensive international submission of entries; each will be showing recent or site specific work in the new galleries. Works are coming to Cheltenham from all over the world, from as far away as Australia and South America.

Sophie Wilson, exhibitions team leader at The Wilson, said: “This is an exciting exhibition of work from a diverse range of artists – all displayed in our new gallery spaces. As a free exhibition, it’s a wonderful way for visitors to be introduced to established and emerging artists.”

The three awards which accompany the exhibition will be announced on the night of the private view:

• Curators' Award - £500
• University of Gloucestershire Award - £500
• The Wilson Award - solo exhibition, Cheltenham, September 2014.

In addition, on Sunday 11 May, The Wilson will host a full day of artists’ talks – allowing an exciting opportunity for visitors to engage with the artists and better understand the working processes and approaches they undertake.
