Pittville Park play area preview day

Play area to open in time for half term.

Exciting news in time for the half term holidays! The much anticipated, brand new play area at Pittville Park is opening to the public at 12noon on Friday 27 May. The park is expected to get incredibly busy with families flocking to Cheltenham’s newest attraction so the council is advising people to consider when they visit if they wish to avoid the crowds.

It will be a tough choice for children as they choose what to try out first. The play area – much bigger than before – will feature two zip wires, a castle tower with climbing equipment, tunnel slides, a sand and water area, as well as a climbing net, tunnels, swings, musical play equipment, trampolines and toddler play equipment. With all of the excitement, grown-ups (and their children) may appreciate a visit to the brand new refreshment kiosk for a much-needed snack and drink.

The opening comes after a recent preview event which was held for children who have been involved in the early design work.  It was a priority from the very beginning to ensure that the play area was suitable for all ages and abilities to enjoy.

Councillor Chris Coleman, cabinet member for clean and green environment said: "I am delighted that we are ahead of the game on what has been a huge project which has been achieved earlier than anticipated. We were expecting to open in the summer so it’s great news that we are in a position now to open for half term. The new play area will inspire children to get creative, be imaginative and challenge themselves to go to the next level of play.

"Importantly the state-of-the-art equipment is accessible so that it can be enjoyed by all children and I am thankful to those who supported us to make sure that we got this right. I also extend my thanks to Friends of Pittville, businesses and the public who have helped us fundraise to achieve this flag ship play area."

Judie Hodsdon from the Friends of Pittville added: "Friends of Pittville are grateful to all those who supported our fundraising campaign so that this wonderful new play area could be completed and open in time for half term holiday."

There are toilet facilities at the park and extra portaloos will be available during the school holiday.

There are still a couple of areas where grass is still establishing, which will be cordoned off along with the aviaries which are expected to be completed by early July. Once they have been completed we plan to hold an official opening event, details to follow.
