Recycling boxes by the kerbside

In windy weather household waste and recycling containers and their contents can easily get blown around.

With high winds forecast, it may help to put containers in a sheltered spot, but only if they can still be easily seen by collectors and are placed at the front of your property.

The council also asks residents to ensure that the lids on their recycling boxes are shut properly when presenting their boxes on the kerbside. It’s also a good idea to put a heavy object on top such as a stone or brick.

Collection crews pick up materials they drop or spill and may be able to pick up items blown close to containers, but cannot pick up those blown down the street.
