A date for the diary! Sunday 19 May 2019 at Pittville Park, 10am – 5pm.

The Cheltenham Festival of Cycling returns on Sunday 19 May 2019 at Pittville Park, either side of Tommy Taylor's Lane.   With plenty of bike racks available, cycling to the event is encouraged.

Come and support the Western League Cyclocross Races, where top local amateur cyclists race over a challenging off road circuit, testing their endurance and bike handling skills to the limit.  Take part in free coaching and confidence building sessions, a junior bike obstacle course, women’s only guided rides, bike maintenance, bike demos and much more.

Leonard Cheshire Gloucestershire Wheels For All is the charity partner for the festival this May. The Wheels for All project runs inclusive cycling sessions for disabled and non-disabled people to get together and enjoy the benefits of getting on a bike.

There will also be ‘Suffer Fest Challenge’, with two static bikes and a variety of challenges to have a go at, with prizes worth in total over £850, thanks to local sponsors.

Most activities are free of charge and some will require advance booking – visit www.cheltenhamcyclingfestival.org.uk for more information.

Richard Gibson, the council’s strategy and engagement manager said:  ‘’Cycling is a great way of bringing family and friends of all ages together. Whether you’re practising on a balance bike, finding family friendly bike routes or competing, cycling offers great fun and numerous health benefits.

‘’Building on the success of Cheltenham’s 2017 cycling festival, this event will be set in the ever popular Pittville Park and promises to be another great celebration of cycling.’’

This year’s event will support ‘No Child Left Behind’ Year of Action, with fun arts and crafts activities available on the day.

Are you interested in supporting the event? Volunteers are still needed to help this event run smoothly. Duties include setting up and packing away, cycle marshalling, assisting with the cyclocross event, balanceability and bikeability sessions, supporting the car parks and helping on the information stand.

Volunteers are invited to a briefing session beforehand and are provided with a t-shirt, meals (if volunteering for over 4 hours), drinks and snacks throughout the day. There are also opportunities for breaks to enjoy the event as well. Anyone interested can email the borough council at volunteering@cheltenham.gov.uk for more details and an application form
