Residents and skate enthusiasts are invited to come along to find out more and give their views this Saturday, 7 September, on an initial concept design for a new concrete scooter and skate park.

Specialist design and build contractors will be on hand to talk through the designs at the event at Oakley Community Resource Centre in Clyde Crescent, Cheltenham.

The initial design features a banked hip, clam shell, roller on deck, two three way pump bump/roller/hips, bowl pocket, and much more, with landscaping, skateable benches, and grass bunds for safety and aesthetics.
Feedback from the session will help shape the design to meet the specific needs of Oakley and Cheltenham users.

Cllr Rowena Hay, cabinet member for finance at Cheltenham Borough Council, says: “This is a really exciting project that will be the first concrete facility of its kind in Cheltenham.

“We are working with specialist BMX and cycle track builders Clark and Kent Contractors on the design and we’d like to gauge everyone’s views on how we can get the very best from the park.

“It’s taken several years to raise the funding and we hope that the community will be pleased with the plans so far. The funding has come from several sources and I’d like to give thanks to everybody involved including the county council and the Oakley Community Association.”

Anyone unable to attend on Saturday can email comments to [email protected] until Monday 9 September 2019.

Once the final design has been agreed it will go through the council’s planning process and it is hoped that the new facility will be completed by the spring 2020.

A total of £66,979 has been secured for the project from a number of local organisations and funding streams.
