Grassy football pitch at Burrows playing fields with large tree and houses in the background

Burrows playing fields in Leckhampton is set to benefit from a number of improvements, early next year, thanks to a partnership between Cheltenham Borough Council and Leckhampton Rovers Football Club.

Pavilion refurbishments, a perimeter footpath, new bike racks and much needed pitch improvements, subject to planning approval, will mean that Leckhampton Rovers Football Club (LRFC) can offer more activities for everyone in the local community to enjoy.

Cllr Flo Clucas cabinet member for healthy lifestyles at Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “We’re working closely with LRFC to ensure that these improvements will benefit the whole community, make a positive difference to this much valued green space, and encourage more walking and cycling.

“We’d like to reassure local residents than any works to this beautiful green space are for the benefit of the whole community. The look and feel of the fields will remain the same, but with much improved playing surfaces for the pitches.

“We want to make sure that everyone who currently uses the Burrows, will still be able to access the fields. To allow for this, work will be carried out over two phases during 2021 and 2022.”

Mark Beaney, trustee at LRFC, continues: "LRFC is delighted to be entering a long term partnership with Cheltenham Borough Council. This is an amazing opportunity to create a fantastic sporting infrastructure that can be used in a safe and friendly environment for many years to come.

“It will provide a hub that will enable inclusivity in a wide range of sport that will support the physical and mental wellbeing of participants. The improved facilities will support the Leckhampton community, to ensure everyone can enjoy formal or recreational sport and leisure activities at the Burrows."
