An independent survey has been launched to gauge residents’ satisfaction with their local area as a place to live.

The survey, which is being carried out by Enventure Research on behalf of Cheltenham Borough Council, will ask a representative sample of residents about a range of issues including what their priorities are for their local area and which council services are most important to them.

Topics include: household recycling and waste collections, housing, job opportunities, tackling homelessness, promoting walking, cycling and the climate emergency.

Face-to-face surveys with residents are being carried out in Cheltenham town centre throughout September, whilst some residents will be contacted by telephone as well as an opportunity for everyone to respond online.

Cllr Rowena Hay, leader of the Council said: “We are keen to gather as many views as possible through this surveys. Understanding what’s important for our residents, and what their priorities are is invaluable in our forward planning.

“Residents’ surveys are frequently carried out by councils to collect a representative view from local people’s perceptions about living and working in Cheltenham. The results from our last survey were pleasing in many respects, with many people satisfied with living here and many council services overall, and we will continue to use residents’ insights to inform current and future decision making.’’

The last residents’ survey, carried out in 2019, revealed that 84% of Cheltenham residents are satisfied with their local area as a place to live.  Four in five of those asked, said they were proud to live in Cheltenham and seven in ten residents said that they were satisfied with household recycling and waste collections.

Notes:

It is recommended by the Local Government Association (LGA) that as best practice Councils undertake resident satisfaction surveys to get insights from a representative sample of the local population.
