£30k funding available in Cheltenham for local good causes which will help create a legacy across three Coronation themes – inclusion, young people and biodiversity

People across the UK will come together to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on Saturday 6 May.

Local Cheltenham community groups are being encouraged to apply for a share of £30k funding available to local good causes, in support of the town’s celebrations. Online applications open from today, Monday 20 March, until 23.59 on Thursday 27 April 2023.

Applications for the funding should create a legacy and mark the Coronation for future generations. Applicants are encouraged to read the guidelines and apply for one of two funds:

Our Coronation Community Fund which supports longer-term projects to help the town celebrate and commemorate the Coronation. Grants of up to £3,000 will be made on a match-funded basis;

Our Community Building – Coronation Fund to support smaller-scale projects, events and activities to help the town celebrate the Coronation. Grants of up to £300 will be made.

Cllr Peter Jeffries, cabinet member for finance and assets, said: “We’re really excited to be launching this fund to coincide with the Coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen Consort. We would love local groups and organisations to get creative and think about what they can do to help us celebrate the Coronation and also create lasting memorials and positive change.”

Applicants are being asked to think of projects that meet at least one of the three themes:

  • Using the opportunity of the Coronation to bring people together, connecting people to foster new relationships and celebrating our diverse communities.
  • Using the opportunity of the Coronation to help improve the bio-diversity of Cheltenham green spaces and natural environment
  • Using the opportunity of the Coronation to help make Cheltenham a place where all our children and young people have the opportunity to thrive.

Cllr Flo Clucas, cabinet member for safety and communities added: “May 6th is going to be a special day as our new King and Queen Consort are crowned, so I am delighted that Cheltenham's Coronation Community Fund is now open. It is there to help the town celebrate, commemorate and come together. We are pleased to be able to support organisations in Cheltenham to be part of this very special borough wide celebration in 2023 and to create a legacy for the future.
