NCLB at Cheltenham ice rink

Hundreds of free ice rink holiday sessions on offer for children as part of the Winter Holiday Activity and Food Scheme.

  • Holiday camps, day trips and activity packs are all available to book now with our holiday activity providers over the festive period.

Cheltenham’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) project has teamed up with Visit Cheltenham to offer four dates for free skate sessions at Cheltenham’s indoor ice rink.

Cheltenham Borough Council is the district lead for the Holiday Activity and Food Scheme in Cheltenham. The council’s project NCLB, coordinates the programme working closely with local food and activity providers to ensure the most vulnerable children in our communities have access to opportunities throughout the school holidays.

300 free holiday ice rink sessions will be available for children as part of the Winter Holiday Activity and Food Scheme on Tuesday,19 December, funded by the Department of Education.

Councillor Flo Clucas, member for communities and safety said “We’re delighted that Visit Cheltenham have enabled these free ice-skating sessions for local children. At the heart of the NCLB project we want to ensure children thrive and by offering enriching activities like this, we offer opportunities to develop resilience, character and wellbeing. It’s great that our children can have fun and skating is a fantastic way to do it.’’

Two further dates, Tuesday, 27 December and Friday, 29 December will offer a further 300 free ice-skating sessions available to all families as part of the Holiday Activity Programme, funded by Gloucestershire County Council.

Helen Mole, head of place marketing and inward investment, added: ‘’Cheltenham’s ice rink is a spectacular place to have fun this Christmas and it’s important to ensure we all support one another. We’re pleased to offer these sessions to families through our friends at No Child Left Behind and we look forward to seeing lots of children across the town enjoying this fantastic festive activity.’’

The ice rink is fully accessible for wheelchair users and has dedicated SEND and pre-school sessions. It is in Imperial Gardens until Monday 1 January and open every day except Christmas Day.
