This year marks the 19th anniversary of LGBT+ History Month, an annual celebration and remembrance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history.

The aim of LGBT+ History Month is to reflect on LGBT+ history, as well as think about what more can be done in the future to protect LGBT+ rights and promote equality and inclusivity.

This year’s theme is ‘Medicine – #UnderTheScope’ which intends to shine a light on contributions to medicine, including staff in the NHS and other health care providers, as well as highlight the LGBT+ community’s experience in receiving health care treatment. The theme encourages everyone to look ‘Under the Scope’ and listen to LGBT+ people’s lived experiences from LGBT+ people.

Cllr Flo Clucas, cabinet member for safety and communities, said: “This month is an opportunity to learn more, to understand more and be more together. Let's make it a great success.”
