The Rock Cheltenham awarded £41k to support detached youth work

The initiative, part of the council’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) project, aims to support potentially vulnerable young people and those at risk of anti-social behaviour who are over the age of 13.

No Child Left Behind brought together funding from Cheltenham Borough Homes as part of Cheltenham Borough Council, NHS Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire’s Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) that was then made available for organisations to deliver detached youth work services in Cheltenham.

The Rock’s work is focused on three identified areas: The Moors in St Peters, St Paul’s and the town centre. The project so far has used provision such as mobile sports activities as a connecting point, as well as helping young people to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Cllr Victoria Atherstone, cabinet member for safety and communities, said: "We are thrilled to be supporting local youth project The Rock in delivering this important detached youth work programme across Cheltenham. This funding will help ensure that our community provides the support needed to help young people reach their full potential.”

Andy Macauly, operations director at The Rock, said: "The response we've received to the programme so far has been fantastic. We’ve connected with more than 175 young people who have shared constructive ideas and support has been offered around the individual challenges they face.”
