Union strike action scheduled for Wednesday 30 November

Published on 28th November 2011

Local government strike action will go ahead on Wednesday 30 November.

Unison and GMB have notified Cheltenham Borough Council of their intention to take industrial action over changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The action is set to take place at councils throughout the country.

There will be no household or trade waste refuse or recycling collections on this day. Residents and trade waste customers who have missed their scheduled collection on Wednesday should place their waste and recycling containers out for collection on Thursday and the council will make the collections in the following days. Thursday and Friday collections will be as normal.

Due to the exceptional circumstances collection arrangements may be amended and it may not be possible to keep all materials segregated for recycling.

List of closures to the public:

  • the Municipal Offices
  • the depot (Swindon Road)
  • the Tourist Information Centre
  • all council owned public toilets
  • Cheltenham Borough Homes – Oakley Resource Centre and Coronation Square Area Office (repairs can still be reported on 0800 408 0000)

Some services will be running although the number of employees working will be reduced. These are: leisure@cheltenham, the town hall (including the box office), the cemetery and the crematorium.
