Future elections being held in Cheltenham

The government has announced that the elections due to take place on 7 May 2020 will be postponed until May 2021. We are awaiting legislation to be passed and will update this page once clarity has been given.

The next scheduled elections in the Cheltenham area will be the Cheltenham Borough Council and Police and Crime Commissoner elections on Thursday 7 May 2020.

Cheltenham Borough Council elections

An election is held every two years to vote for one of your local borough councillors. You are voting to elect councillors who will represent your views for the ward (area) in which you live.

There will be elections in all 20 borough wards throughout Cheltenham. Futher information and relevant documents will be made available as they are published below:

In order to vote by post or proxy, please download a postal vote application form, or proxy application.

To vote at this election you need to be registered. Applications of registration must reach Cheltenham Borough Council, Municipal Offices, Promenade, GL50 9SA on Tuesday 21 April 2020.

Postal vote applications, amendments or cancellations must reach Cheltenham Borough Council, Municipal Offices, Promenade, GL50 9SA by 5pm on Wednesday 22 April 2020.

Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach Cheltenham Borough Council, Municipal Offices, Promenade, GL50 9SA by 5pm on Wednesday 29 April 2020.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election, applied for on medical grounds or if your occupation, service or employment means that you cannot go to the polling station in person, and you only become aware of that fact after the deadline of 5pm on Wednesday 29 April, must reach Cheltenham Borough Council, Municipal Offices, Promenade, GL50 9SA by 5pm on Thursday 7 May 2020.
