Changes to the voting system for Police and Crime Commissioner elections

Previously the voting system used for Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) elections was "supplementary voting", which allowed voters to vote for candidates in order of preference. The system has been replaced with the "first past the post" system which is used for local and general elections. First past the post allows voters to make one selection on their ballot paper.

When does the change come into force?

Changes came into effect for all Mayoral and PCC elections (including by-elections) held on or after 4 May 2023.
