Types of alcohol, entertainment and late night refreshment licence

There are various licences available:

Premises licence

This allows you to:

  • sell or supply alcohol
  • provide entertainment or entertainment facilities
  • provide hot food and drink between 11pm and 5am

Personal licence

This allows you to:

  • authorise the sale or supply of alcohol

Club premises certificate

Authorises a members club to carry out the following activities:

  • supply alcohol to club members
  • provide entertainment or entertainment facilities
  • provide hot food between 11pm and 5am

Temporary event notice

This allows:

  • licensable activities to take place on a premises that does not have a premises licence. This is effective on a temporary basis and there are limits to the number and duration of events.

All four licences were introduced in the Licensing Act 2003

There are fees associated with each type of licence.
