Submit a request for pre-application advice

Whether you'd like to book a duty telephone appointment to speak with one of our planning or conservation officers, or whether you wish to request formal pre-application advice, you will need to download and complete the appropriate application form.

Pre-application advice request forms

In addition to your completed application form you will also need to provide relevant supporting information. For each level of service we offer, we ask that you provide as much detail about your proposal as possible, but as a minimum we would expect:

  • location plan
  • description of the site, including existing uses
  • description of the proposed development
  • existing and proposed site layout plan
  • existing floor plans and elevations
  • proposed floor plans and elevations

For householder and smaller scale developments, sketches will often be accepted. We would also encourage you to provide site photographs, as these can be particularly useful where site visits are not carried out.

If you want advice from our conservation officers, whether that be through a duty appointment or through a formal pre-application request, in addition to the information above, you will likely need to provide more detailed heritage related information, such as details of the heritage significance of the site or building and the specific heritage significance of the area affected by the proposed works.

If you don't provide enough information, we may not be able to process your request, but you will be given the opportunity to provide further details.

When you have all of the necessary information please send this, along with your completed application form to [email protected].

Fees

Before we can begin to process your request, you'll need to pay the relevant fees via our payment page - please select ‘Planning application fees’.

What happens next?

For telephone appointments, once you've made your submission by email and payment has been received, a member of our business support team will contact you to book the telephone appointment.

For formal pre-application requests, the request will be registered and allocated to an officer. If enough information and detail has been provided, we'll validate your submission and you'll receive formal acknowledgement. If appropriate, an officer will then be in touch to arrange a meeting or site visit, or will provide the written feedback directly to you within the appropriate timescales, depending on the service you have opted for.
