Additional vehicles out and about tomorrow to catch up on collections
Published on 12th December 2017
Due to the snow and icy conditions, some areas in Cheltenham have not had their waste and recycling collected on time.
Every effort is being made to catch up on any missed collections and tomorrow (13 December), extra vehicles and crew will take to the streets. Residents are urged to leave their bins, bags, boxes and caddies out so that the crews can make every effort to reach them.
Residents may see some of the regular refuse trucks out tomorrow collecting recycling to help with missed collections. Whilst the materials are being put together into one truck, residents should be assured that they will be separated once again back at the recycling centre.
Tim Atkins, managing director for place and economic development said: ‘’We have been working with Ubico to continue waste and recycling collections in many areas of the borough. However, because of the snow and ice, crews have struggled to get to some roads resulting in missed collections. The trucks are extremely difficult to manage in slippery conditions and that’s why no risks are taken.
‘’As the snow melts, we will be catching up on collections. You may see that we are using additional vehicles which may not match the regular ones. Residents should not be concerned and we would urge them to continue separating their recycling in line with our guidelines so that we can continue to do our best environmentally. These trucks will be used temporarily as an emergency measure and materials will still be recycled.’’
