As windy weather is predicted over the next few days, residents are reminded that household waste and recycling containers and their contents can easily get blown around.

Cllr Chris Coleman, cabinet member for clean and green environment, says: “With high winds forecast again over the next few days, to avoid contents being blown around it may help to put the blue bags for cardboard between recycling boxes in a sheltered spot where possible, but only if they can still be easily seen by collectors and are placed at the kerbside.

“If this weather continues into next week, we’d also like to ask residents to ensure that the lids on their recycling boxes are shut properly when presenting their boxes on the kerbside. It’s also a good idea to put a heavy object on top such as a stone or brick to prevent the lid coming loose.

“Our collection crews pick up materials they drop or spill and may be able to pick up items blown close to containers, but cannot pick up those blown down the street.”

Please help us by doing all you can to avoid wind-blown material and report any serious litter problems to the council’s customer service team via the website: www.cheltenham.gov.uk/reportit email [email protected] on 01242 262626.

Residents who do not have a lid for their recycling box can request a new box and lid by contacting our customer service team through our website (www.cheltenham.gov.uk/recycling) or by telephone on 01242 262626.
