public health covid 19 messages on waste and recycling lorries

New customers who subscribe to the council’s garden waste service will pay the same as last year - £42 with the early bird discount between 1 February and 31 May 2021.

The council is encouraging more residents to either home compost or sign up to the fortnightly kerbside garden waste collection service. Customers who renew their existing subscription before their renewal date will also benefit from the £42 early bird discount.

Councillor Chris Coleman member for clean and green said: ‘’Last year, as more of us were working from home and spending more time in our gardens, we saw an increase in garden waste subscriptions and the amount of garden waste being collected.  During the first lock-down, we collected a staggering 42% more garden waste than for the same period the year before.

‘’The garden waste collection service makes a significant contribution to Cheltenham's recycling rate and it’s important that we recycle as much as possible.’’

New customers can sign up to the garden waste scheme online or telephone, 01242 262626.

Home composting advice can be found at www.cheltenham.gov.uk/gardenwaste/home-composting

Full price garden waste subscriptions for new and existing customers outside of the offer period or renewal period also remain unchanged at £45.
