Weavers Field community orchard

Trees in Weavers Field community orchard

Weavers Field is situated in the Warden Hill area on the southern edge of Cheltenham. It was the site of Warden Hill Farm until the construction of the surrounding housing developments in the 1960’s.

Adjacent to the old farmhouse (now demolished) was a small orchard of plum and cherry trees. Some of these trees still survive, and a project has commenced to create a community orchard by planting new fruit trees and bringing some of the existing one’s back into management.

The new orchard consists of a mix of apple, plum and cherry, using old traditional varieties including some from Gloucestershire.

Work parties at Weavers Field community orchard planting

The project is jointly funded by Gloucestershire County Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, and Cotswold National Landscape, with the help of Gloucestershire Orchard Trust.

It is planned that the orchard will become an asset enjoyed by the local community for relaxation, education, and wellbeing alike.

More information to follow as the orchard develops.
